Angela Goh is an Australian dancer and choreographer. She is working with dance in theatres, galleries, and telepathetic spaces. Her work often deals with tropes of femininity; the supernatural; and dance as both a form and as a force. Angela’s works have been presented in a multitude of formats across Australia, Europe, the UK, USA and SouthEast Asia. Recent presentations include at PS122, Performance Space New York; Auto Italia (London); the Asia Pacific Triennial of Performing Art (Melbourne), Firsdraft (Sydney); Campbelltown Arts Centre (Sydney); Next Wave Festival (Melbourne); Perth Institute of Contemporary Art; The Judson Church (NYC); and as presented by Galerie (int) at La Biennale de la Danse (Lyon); Jan Mot Gallery (Brussels); Dansehallerne (Copenhagen); Menagerie de Verre (Paris); and Saal Biennial (Tallin).
“Dan Bilzerian is a professional poker player, international playboy and instagram celebrity whose crass displays of wealth and conspicuous excess have accrued him nearly 23 million followers (@danbilzerian). In Kickback Fire Angela Goh takes YouTube footage of Bilzerian and his posse of bikini-clad babes firing semi-automatic weapons at a flock of drones in the Californian desert and adds images of herself in a liminal white space with found footage of animals bringing down drones. The resulting video collage, moving between Dan, Angela and the animals, is a compelling and disquieting spectacle with drones as signifiers of capitalism and power permeating each section. The power relationships shift throughout the work, never leaving us clear about who is the top of the hierarchy; human vs drone, drone vs animal, human vs nature.” Excerpt by Tulleah Pearce from exhibition catalogue for The Future Leaks Out, Carriageworks, 2017.
