Taking as its found object, former London tour guide Tom Seaward, After London is a short film that deals with the relationship between personal and cultural memory. Seaward, the guide and narrator of the film, has not been a tour bus guide for 8 years. As he walks backwards through a series of peripheral London spaces that act as stand-ins for the well known sites of ‘Big Ben’, Buckingham Palace and the house of Parliament, we see how his powers of recollection are constantly interrupted by his concern for the individuals and routines that exist in the city and their conflict with grander historical narratives.
